As covered in the Content is King – Small Business Website Path to Success, we are now going to cover a great way to get new content on your website with the help of already indexed content.

Think of it as feeding the beast. Think of it as growing your customer list. Think of it as increasing the value of your business. Think of it in any light possible to motivate you to build content. Because getting content on your site is perhaps the single best way to get return on investment and make your Internet marketing campaign a success as a business owner.

Why? Because every word on a web page is a potential keyword. And keywords are the byproduct of content delivered from the search engines: Google, Yahoo, Bing and others. It really is as simple as that – don’t over complicate it.

Put another way – keywords are what drives visitors to your 21st Century store front – your website.  So how do we meet this vital criteria of adding content to your website with the path of least resistance? I will show you one, very effective method I employ and have seen positive results.  This is an actionable and measurable technique. Actionable in the sense that it meets a very desirable goal of providing content and measurable in the sense it is trackable.

By the way, there will be videos on the next newsletter to help you visualize this method and put it into action.

Ok, so let’s get into the meat of this method. We are going to create content that already exists on the Internet. Simple right? But you are probably wondering – doesn’t the content have to be unique? Well yes and no. We are going to take content that is already indexed yes. But we are going to take that same content, rewrite it some and blast links to content you own. This does two things. First, the content or web page will get indexed in the listings which will in turn provide more opportunity for traffic and secondly and more importantly, it provides internal linking to content on another page that in turn, improves it’s ranking.

So here is a summary of steps we need to take deliver content and blast links to our existing content.

1. Set up a Google Alerts to monitor for interesting, applicable new content. Note: if you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to that up. (Video coming!)

2. Set up Google Reader (or RSS reader of your choice) to house and organize these Google Alerts in an organized, efficient manner. You can use email to deliver the alerts, but I found it much better to use a Reader. (Video coming!)

3. Monitor your Google Reader daily or weekly. Try to set up a schedule that is consistent.

4. Use article/content from Google Alerts to write a new short (150-200) word articles using ScribeFire. Generate new links that point to existing content on your site with a link to the original source. (Video coming!)
That’s it. These four steps will generate new content on your site, provide a fantastic “internal linking structure” for your site and add page rank to existing articles web pages to rank higher.
